چکیده

Human factors and flight operations experts have been studying crew performance issues with commercial transport autoflight and FMS interfaces for more than 20 years. A group at Boeing, in response to this work, has developed a new autoflight/FMS mode set and new interface design. In this paper, we discuss the drivers for the project, our method for generating autoflight modes, and design principles that shaped the interface prototype.

Explaining of the roll of the guiding principles in design problem understanding by vernacular architecture (Case study: Seraj-Mahaleh village)

In the field of architecture, one of the branches of knowledge is design studies that studies on the design process. Researchers in this field have used various concepts to explain the designer's mental processes, one of them is the guiding principles. The guiding principles refer to the principles that the designer believes in and uses them to framerate and understand the priorities of the des...

Two Perspectives of an Autoflight System

Two preliminary studies explored differences in language and style between the design perspective and the operational perspective of autoflight systems. In the first study, responses of an expert pilot and an expert engineer to a set of incident reports involving an autoflight system were compared. In the second study, chapters describing an autoflight system in the system manufacturer's manual...

Semi-Annual Status Report A Comprehension-Based Analysis of AutoFlight System Interfaces

Billings (1996) and other researchers (e.g., Vakil, Hansman, Midkiff, & Vaneck, 1995) have concluded that pilot models of flight automation systems are incomplete and that these models cause operation and training problems (e.g., Mangold & Eldredge, 1995). Sherry and Polson (in preparation) describe a complete model of the avionics. This report summarizes that model and its application to the d...

A New Single-Display Intelligent Adaptive Interface for Controlling a Group of UAVs

The increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones in different civil and military operations has attracted attention of many researchers and science communities. One of the most notable challenges in this field is supervising and controlling a group or a team of UAVs by a single user. Thereupon, we proposed a new intelligent adaptive interface (IAI) to overcome to this challenge. ...

Intelligent Adaptive Interface: A Design Tool for Enhancing Human-Machine System Performances

Intelligent Adaptive Interface (IAI) is a design tool that guides the development of an operator interface in enhancing human-machine system performance. With a set of design principles, this paper introduces the concept of IAI and its design framework, which include methodologies for developing various systems including operator interfaces. These methodologies are demonstrated in a case study ...
